چکیده

Since the 1964 discovery of KL → π π [1], understanding CP violation has been a major goal of particle physics. Subsequent experiments showed that the dominant mechanism of CP violation in neutral kaons (still the only particle system in which CP violation has been observed) is a small asymmetry between K → K 0 and K 0 → K mixing. This asymmetry, referred to as indirect CP violation, results in the KL and KS being states of mixed CP. The parameter ǫ, which is used to parametrize this effect, quantifies the CP impurity of the KL and KS states: KS ∼ Keven + ǫKodd KL ∼ Kodd + ǫKeven, where |ǫ| = 2.28× 10, CP |Keven >= +1|Keven >, and CP |Kodd >= −1|Kodd > . There has been considerable effort during the last 30 years to determine whether or not the CP symmetry is also violated in the decay amplitude (i.e., Kodd → ππ). This effect is referred to as direct CP violation and is parametrized by ǫ. The ratio ǫ/ǫ can be determined from the double ratio of the 2-pion decay rates of KL and KS:

The Final Measurement of ǫ′/ǫ from KTeV

We present precise measurements of CP and CPT symmetry based on the full dataset of K → ππ decays collected by the KTeV experiment at FNAL. We measure the direct CP violation parameterRe(ǫ/ǫ) = (19.2 ±2.1) × 10. We find the KL-KS mass difference ∆m = (5265 ± 10)×10 6 h̄s and the KS lifetime τS = (89.62 ± 0.05)×10 s. We test CPT symmetry by finding the phase of the indirect CP violation parameter...

A short look at ǫ′/ǫ

We analyze the theoretical implications of the new KTeV measurement of direct CP-violation in K → ππ decays. The result is found consistent with the Standard Model for low values of the strange quark mass ms. If the hadronic parameters B (1/2) 6 and B (3/2) 8 satisfy 2B (1/2) 6 − B (3/2) 8 ≤ 2, as suggested by lattice and 1/Nc calculations, we find an upper bound of 110MeV for ms(2GeV). We para...

ǫ′/ǫ And Anomalous Gauge Boson Couplings

We study ǫ/ǫ in the Standard Model and ǫ/ǫ due to anomalous WWγ and WWZ interactions as a function of the top quark mass. In the Standard Model, ǫ/ǫ is in the range 10−3 ∼ 10−4 for the central value of top quark mass reported by CDF. The anomalous gauge couplings can have large contributions to the CP violating I = 2 amplitude in K → ππ. Within the allowed regions for the anomalous gauge coupli...

ENHANCED GLUINO BOX CONTRIBUTION TO ǫ/ǫ IN SUSY

We show that in supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model gluino box diagrams can yield a large CP-violating ∆I = 3 2 contribution to s → dq̄q flavor-changing neutral current processes, which feeds into the I = 2 isospin amplitude in K → ππ decays. This contribution only requires moderate mass splitting between the right-handed squarks ũR and d̃R, and persists for squark masses of order 1Te...

Supersymmetric corrections to ǫ′/ǫ at the leading order in QCD and QED

We study the corrections to ǫ/ǫ in the minimal supersymmetric model at the leading order in QCD and QED. Supersymmetry can increase the standard model prediction for ǫ/ǫ by at most 40% for mt = 174 GeV, an enhancement which is indistinguishable from the present theoretical uncertainties. The most conspicuous effect of supersymmetry is a strong depletion of ǫ/ǫ. For certain choices of supersymme...
